Burewala: Exploring the rich history, culture, and Agriculture in 2023

Burewala is a city located in the Vehari district of the Punjab province in Pakistan. It is situated on the banks of the Sutlej River and is known for its history, agriculture, and education system. I lived in Burewala, and I would love to share things about my city with you guys. So let’s dive right into it:

History:

The city has a long history dating back to the Indus Valley Civilization. It was later ruled by various dynasties such as the Maurya, Gupta, and Mughal empires. The city has several historical sites, you can visit. well-known village civilization “Harappa” is also near burewala city. This means if you are traveling to Lahore, from burewala, you have to cross the “Harappa” toll for that.

Agriculture:

Burewala is also known for its agriculture and is a major center for cotton production. The city is home to many cotton ginning and pressing factories, as well as textile mills. The city is also known for its production of wheat, sugarcane, and other crops. Asia’s biggest textile mill “Burewala Textile Mills Ltd.” (BTM) is also here. But unfortunately, that mill is not working anymore. I was very little when this mill is not working, but still covered a lot of areas in Burewala.

Trade:

The city is also a major center of trade and commerce. It has a large wholesale market “Galla Mandi” for agricultural products, as well as advanced stores, malls, and markets selling a variety of goods. The city is also home to several banks, insurance companies, and other financial institutions for a long time now.

Cultural Heritage:

It is also well-known for its cultural heritage. The city has several traditional festivals and events, including the Urs (annual death anniversary) of Sufi saints, which is celebrated with great enthusiasm. There are several darbars in Burewala such as “Baba Haji Sher“, “Baba Rodday Shah“, “Baba Chisti“, “Peer Ahmed Ali Shah“, etc.

Educational Institutions:

The city is also home to several educational institutions, including primary and secondary schools, as well as colleges and now universities as well. It is also known as the “City of Education“. There are several governments and private schools and colleges offering education in various fields such as science, arts, and commerce, and now digital education.

The city also has several vocational and technical training institutions for you to get some extra skills on the side. And if you are also from It, you should have known this already. I have completed my schooling, and college studies here. Education is one of the factors this city is well known for.

Is Burewala a tourist Location?

Despite the significance that I have mentioned above, Burewala is not a popular tourist destination, not even for Pakistanis. However, it has several historical and cultural sites that can be of interest to tourists. Additionally, the city’s proximity to the Sutlej River makes it an ideal location for outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, and picnicking. We used to go each year to the “Sutlej River” for boating and to eat freshly cooked fish.

In recent years, It has seen significant development and urbanization. The city has several new housing developments(literally infinite numbers of housing schemes, that agricultural land in burewala is in danger), shopping centers, and other modern amenities. The city’s infrastructure has also been improved, with the construction of new roads, bridges, and other continuous public works.

It is a well-known place for many reasons but still, burewala is not famous enough. It is a “Tehsil” and it is under the “District” Vehari. But frankly speaking, It is much more advanced compared to Vehari. But Vehari is far more famous than burewala as it is a district.
