The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued orders suspending all campaigns in the country for the upcoming elections. These include the Punjab Chief Minister‘s Roshan Gharana Programme, which designed to provide free electricity to the poor. The programme was about to begin. But will now be put on hold indefinitely until the elections are concluded.
The Roshan Gharana Programme is a poverty alleviation initiative by the Punjab provincial government in Pakistan. The programme provides free electricity to poor households in the province. Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz launched this Programme. This Programme supposed to provide benefits to about nine million poor households. However, the programme suspended by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The ECP has suspended Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz’s Roshan Gharana Programme. Which provided free electricity to poor people in the province. The EC said that the programme was suspended because it violated the code of conduct for the upcoming elections. However, many people believe that the real reason for the suspension is because the EC wants to stop Shehbaz from using the programme as a way to win votes.
The Roshan Gharana programme, put on hold by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The ECP has suspended the programme till July 17. Pending an inquiry into allegations that the Punjab government was using the programme to influence voters. Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz has denied the allegations. Saying that the programme is a purely humanitarian initiative. And further he said that this programme was the part of provincial budget announce the other(last) month.
The Election Commission of Pakistan has put a hold on all development programmes in the country until the elections are over. This includes the Punjab Chief Minister’s Roshan Gharana Programme. The ECP said that no development programmes will be carried out during the election period. As they can be used for campaigning. This is a setback for the Punjab government, as they had already started work on the programme. Election Commission further said that they want this elections to be as transparent and pure as possible.
