Yes, you are reading it right. Facebook‘s parent company “META” announced that they will allow their some users to create multiple profiles (up to 5), as a test. What are the reasons for that? and what happened to the strict Facebook privacy policy? Let’s dive into details:
If we talk about this, it is not all five different accounts, but four additional profiles linked to the original account that the user has already. The account will remain the same but the user can be able to switch between different profiles. The test is to inspect what good can come out of this new feature? As a general idea, multiple accounts can be used for different activities related to personal or professional relations, joining different groups, and following different personalities. Well, in my opinion, this is a good initiative in a way.
But wait a minute, don’t be over-excited. We are still having policies. Here is one important thing to remember, if you violate the policy on one profile, that will ultimately affect your account as a whole. Means never cross the line. NEVER! somehow, this is also right, A test like this should be done in a controlled environment. Other than that, this thing without any supervision can harm the privacy of others. Let’s see what Pete Cashmore thinks:
“Privacy is Dead, And Social Media Hold the Smoking Gun”
Pete Cashmore, CEO Mashable
But there is one relaxation. You don’t have to use your real name or identity on any other profiles. You can choose the name whatever you like. As long as you stay within the boundaries if you know what I mean.
Facebook was losing its users because of emerging competitors. They want the upper edge again. They need something new, so they offered this, if this test goes well, we can get that too maybe. Hopes are high.
Adios!
