How to Create Facebook Ads That Actually Work

Why are Facebook ads so popular? There are several reasons why this form of advertising has taken the internet by storm, and why businesses continue to turn to it in order to gain more customers. Let’s go over the most important factors that make Facebook ads worth your while, as well as some dos and don’ts you should keep in mind before you create Facebook Ads.

Step 1: Set up your Account

If you want to create a Facebook ad, you’ll need to set up a Facebook Ads account. To do this, go to the Facebook Ads page and click on the green Create an Ad button. Then, follow the prompts to enter your business information. Once your account is set up, you’ll be able to create your first ad.

Step 2: Choose Your Audience

Now that you know how to create a Facebook ad account, it’s time to choose your audience. Keep in mind that your target audience should be people who are likely to be interested in what you’re selling. You can use the Facebook Ads Manager to create a custom audience or lookalike audience. If you’re not sure who your target audience is, try using the interests and behaviors targeting options. Facebook also offers demographic targeting, which allows you to target people based on their age, gender, location, and other factors. Once you’ve chosen your target audience, it’s time to create your ad.

Step 3: Create Facebook Ads

You’ve done your research and you know who your target audience is. Now it’s time to write your ad copy. Here are a few tips:

Never write an ad using industry jargon. Always use plain, simple language your audience can relate to. You don’t want to insult their intelligence. Just keep it fun and light-hearted. You also want them to come back for more! Keep your message brief and compelling – use words that pull at their emotions but also inspire action without being too pushy or desperate. Save a long-winded, chatty copy for after they click on your ad and go through a landing page where you have more room. Here’s an example of how not to write a text ad:

The Alarm Clock Pro is an amazingly loud alarm clock app that will blast you from sleep so you never miss another meeting again!

Step 4: Split Test

Once you have your ad created, it’s time to start split testing. This means creating two (or more) versions of your ad and seeing which performs better. To do this, you’ll need to create a new ad set in Ads Manager and select the Split Test option. Then, you’ll need to choose which element you want to test (for example, the image), and create two different versions of that element. Facebook will then serve your ad to a randomly selected group of people and will show the version that performs better more often.

Step 5: Evaluate your Results

You’ve created your first Facebook ad and it’s running. Congrats! Now comes the hard part: evaluating your results. You’ll want to keep an eye on a few key metrics to see how your ad is performing. Here are a few things to look for:

  • Reach: How many people are seeing your ad?
  • Frequency: How often are people seeing your ad?
  • Clicks: How many people are clicking on your ad?
  • Click-Through Rate (CTR): What percentage of people who see your ad are clicking on it?
  • Conversion Rate: What percentage of people who click on your ad are taking the desired action (buying a product, signing up for a newsletter, etc.)?

Bonus Tip!

If you’re new to advertising on Facebook, here’s a bonus tip: start with a small budget. You can always increase your budget later if you find that your ads are performing well. Also, be sure to target your ads carefully. Don’t just try to reach as many people as possible—target your ads to people who are most likely to be interested in what you’re selling.
